St Joseph's Catholic High School in Barrie held a liturgy during first period on March 1st to mark the beginning of Lent. Students and teachers gathered in the cafeteria that was transformed into a church to have the annual liturgy.
The liturgy received positive feedback from the staff and students. Kaitlyn said, “The choir sang beautifully.” Mr. Bekking and the choir started the liturgy with Amelia, Aspen and Alyssa singing “You Hold It All Together” (originally sung by All Sons & Daughters). The band was playing in the back to create a reflective atmosphere.
Some of the students volunteered to recite prayers and to talk about the reason we spend the next 4o days fasting to prepare for Easter. Afterwards, teachers began to distribute the ashes on everyone's forehead to remind us that we need to try to be more like Jesus. Music played softly as the students and teachers returned to their homeroom classes to begin thinking about how they can be more connected to Jesus in the season of Lent.
